Czech cuisine - typical and national meals, fare (strava):

  • unhealthy, very fat
  • roasted pork - served with sauerkraut and dumplings
  • pieces of tenderloin covered in sweet creamy sauce - served with dumplings, slice of lemon and cranberry sauce (svíčková)
  • slice of pork or chicken or veal meat fried - served with potatoes or mashed potatoes (wiener schnitzel from veal) (řízek)
  • goulash - beef and onions cooked with spices and served with dumplings
  • pickled sausage with onions (utopenec)
  • sweet dumplings with plum (or with other fruits), pancaces, jam omelettes
  • sponge cake with cherries (bublanina)
  • fried carp with potato salad, pea soup or fish soup on Christmas Eve
  • drinkables: beer, wine (south Moravia)

English cuisine - typical meals, fare:
  • full breakfast, light lunch, dinner as a main dish, supper
  • brunch - at the weekend
  • full cooked breakfast is a hot dish that includes fries bacon, sausage and eggs, tomatoes and sometimes mushrooms - served with cup of tea or coffee, nowdays Englishmen prefer light breakfast consisting of cereals, porridge, cornflakes, toasts and marmalade
  • fish and chips (wrapped in newspaper - now banned by EU)
  • roast beef (usually served at Sunday dinner)
  • roast meat generally - pork or lamb meat - served with boiled or roast potatoes, peas, carrots, Brussels sprouts, Yorkshire pudding (made with flour and fat) and gravy (from fat and juices from the cooked roast meat and mixing them with flour and vegetable stock)
  • tikka masala - most eaten today in the UK - popular Indian dish from chicken covered with a tomato gravy with cream or cocout cream and various spices
  • Scottish salmon
  • very popular Chinese and Indian take-away (to-go)
  • water in restaurants - straight from the tap unless you order miniral water - you should not be charged for it
